Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist (下ネタという概念が存在しない退屈な世界, Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai), officially abbreviated as Shimoseka (下セカ) in Japan, is a Japanese light novel series written by Hirotaka Akagi and illustrated by Eito Shimotsuki. Shogakukan has published nine volumes since July 2012 under their Gagaga Bunko imprint. A manga adaptation titled Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai: Man**-hen (下ネタという概念が存在しない退屈な世界 マン●篇) with art by N' Yuzuki began serialization in Mag Garden's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Comic Blade from May 2014. An anime television series adaptation by J.C.Staff aired from July 2015 to September 2015.

Synopsis Edit

It's 16 years after the "Law for Public Order and Morals in Healthy Child-Raising" banned coarse language in the country. Tanukichi Okuma enrolls in the country's leading elite public morals school and is soon invited into the Anti-Societal Organization (SOX) by its founder, Ayame Kajō. As a member blackmailed into joining by Ayame, Tanukichi ends up taking part in obscene acts of terrorism against the talented student council president and his crush Anna.

Title Origin Edit

Shimoneta (下ネタ) is a Japanese word for "dirty joke".

Anime Edit

The anime ran for 12 episodes and covered Volumes 01 and 02 of the light novels. The final episode completely deviated from that of the light novel and manga. To date, no news of a second season is released.

Light Novel Edit

The light novel ended at Volume 11 in February 2016. To date, there has been no official English translations released.

Manga Edit

The manga ran for 23 chapters across 4 volumes, and covered Volumes 01 to 04 of the light novels. The chapter 23 of the manga is explicitly stated as the ending.
